Leadership Training for Supervisors. Built for the Shift They Run Tomorrow.
Your supervisors were promoted because they were great at the work. Nobody handed them the other half of the job. Chris Sund runs in-person, half-day and full-day supervisor training for HR and training leaders who need new and frontline supervisors to lead people well, have the hard conversation early, and stop doing everyone’s job for them. It is built by an operator who has hired, promoted and trained supervisors while growing a company 10x in revenue.

The Promotion Nobody Trains For
Most supervisors get the title on a Friday and a team on Monday. They know the work better than anyone, so they keep doing it, they avoid the conversation that would fix the problem, and they wonder why the job feels heavier every week. That gap is what this training closes. More on it in They Were Great at the Job. Now They Lead a Team.
Chris knows the moment well. His first leadership role was shift supervisor at a restaurant, and he earned it by being good at the work. Leading the people beside him was a different job. A manager he respected recommended a book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell, and Chris started treating leadership as a skill to learn rather than a title to wear. This training is the version he wishes every new supervisor got on day one.
From Peer to Supervisor
Leading the people who were your coworkers last month, without pretending the friendship never happened and without losing the team’s respect.
What Is Actually in Your Control
A supervisor cannot fix pay bands or the org chart. They can decide whether people feel seen, get better and hear the truth. Ownership starts there.
The Conversation You Are Avoiding
Truth over praise. Supervisors rehearse the conversation they have been putting off, with a partner, before they have it for real. See the accountability session.
Small Moments That Keep People
Calling people by name, noticing effort, being present. The habits behind The Power of Small Moments, sized for a busy shift.
Half-Day and Full-Day Supervisor Training
Both versions are in person and fully customized after a planning call. The outlines below are suggestions, not a fixed curriculum.
Half-Day Supervisor Training
The core skills, practiced instead of lectured.
- Self-assessment: where each supervisor actually is
- Peer to supervisor: the hardest transition in the job
- Ownership: what is theirs to fix and what is not
- The accountability conversation, rehearsed in pairs
- A written plan with one commitment and a date
Full-Day Supervisor Training
Everything in the half day, with more depth and practice.
- The Leadership Exchange, Chris’s interactive table workshop
- Hiring and developing people for traits, not just experience
- Recognition and the small moments that keep good people
- Extended role-play on each supervisor’s real situations
- Longer planning block and a team commitment
Keynote or Breakout Add-On
For organizations that want every supervisor and manager to hear the same message, a keynote for the full group can open the day, with the workshop for a smaller cohort afterward. One visit, two formats.
What Supervisors Leave With
A training budget should not buy another binder. It should buy supervisors who do something differently on Monday. The day is built around outcomes a supervisor can use on the next shift.
- A clear line between doing the work and leading the people who do it
- A way to lead former peers without losing the relationship or the respect
- One hard conversation rehearsed out loud and ready to have
- Simple recognition habits that cost nothing and keep good people
- A shared language across every supervisor who attended
- A written commitment with a date and a person who will ask about it
Hiring is part of it too. Chris tells the story of a recruiter he hired for traits rather than a perfect résumé, and why the habit of looking for traits changes how a supervisor builds a team. For the full talent session, see Winning the Talent Battle.
What Workshop Rooms Say
Chris has run The Leadership Exchange for conference audiences, chambers and leadership groups, including the WSHMMA Conference and the Greater Omaha Chamber. Read all testimonials.
Chris brought exactly the kind of energy and engagement we wanted for our WSHMMA Annual Conference. Speaking to more than 200 healthcare supply chain professionals with a wide range of experience levels, he connected with the entire room. He didn’t simply stand on stage and talk about leadership — he created an experience. His Leadership Exchange had attendees talking, laughing, reflecting, and learning from one another. He knows how to read a room and turn a traditional conference session into something people actually participate in and remember.
Chris’s presentation for the Leadership Exchange didn’t feel like another polished leadership talk — he made it a conversation that was engaging, honest, and backed by personal experience. What stuck out was how he tied big leadership ideas to the things we actually deal with day to day. That vulnerability is rare, and it made the whole session stick.
At our Leadership Exchange workshop, Chris was able to energize the room, spark conversations, and encourage connections throughout the event. Attendees spoke of how impactful their conversations were, reinforcing just how powerful these moments of connection can be. We are incredibly grateful for Chris and the lasting impact he is making on our community’s future leaders.

What HR and Training Leaders Ask
What is the difference between the half-day and full-day supervisor training?
The half day (three to four hours) covers the core: the move from peer to supervisor, what is in a supervisor’s control, the accountability conversation practiced out loud, and a written plan. The full day (six to seven hours) adds The Leadership Exchange, a session on hiring and developing people for traits, more role-play time on each supervisor’s real situations, and a longer planning block. Both agendas are starting points and are customized for each client.
Is this training for new supervisors or experienced ones?
It is built first for new and newly promoted supervisors, the people promoted because they were excellent at the work. Experienced supervisors get just as much from the practice blocks, and training both groups together lets new supervisors hear how experienced ones handle the same problems.
Is the supervisor training available virtually or as a multi-week program?
No. Chris delivers this training in person only, as a half-day or full-day workshop on site or at your venue. If you need to reach a larger group, a keynote or breakout for all supervisors can be paired with the workshop on the same visit.
Can the training be customized to our industry and our policies?
Yes. Before the session Chris holds a planning call with HR or the training lead to learn who is in the room, what they supervise and the situations they struggle with most. The role-plays and examples are built around those situations. The sample agendas on this page are suggestions, and every program is customized.
How is this different from booking Chris as a frontline manager speaker?
A speaker session is a keynote or breakout for a conference or all-manager meeting. This page is about training: a working half or full day where supervisors practice and leave with a written plan. For the keynote version, see the frontline and middle manager speaker page, and for every workshop format see leadership workshop facilitator.
