How to Use AI for Small Business Marketing

Stop starting from zero. The prompt I teach for turning one finished job into five marketing assets, and the simple routine that keeps content going out even when the week gets busy.

The Short Answer

The easiest way to use AI for small business marketing is to start from work you already finished. Take one completed project with photos, your notes and a customer comment, and ask AI to turn that one set of facts into five assets: a website project page, a Google Business post, a LinkedIn post, a customer email and a one-page sales sheet. Check every fact, then schedule the pieces across the month. You get consistent marketing without writing from a blank page, and every piece is grounded in real work.

Most small businesses do great work and tell nobody about it.

The job gets finished, the crew moves on to the next one, and the photos sit on somebody’s phone. Marketing becomes something the owner means to do when things slow down, and things never slow down. Meanwhile the company with half the skill and twice the posting shows up first when a customer starts looking.

I ran sales and marketing for a brewery before I went into healthcare staffing, and the lesson from both is the same: being good is not enough if the buyer has never heard of you. This is the fourth area of my workshop Take Back Your Time with AI: turn one completed project into useful content.

Why does marketing matter before the customer needs you?

Because most buyers have made up their mind about who they will consider before they ever reach out.

of the time, the winning vendor was already on the buyer’s Day One shortlist.

That is research on business buyers, and it lines up with what I see in every industry I have worked in. If you are not known before they need you, you are usually competing for second place. The fix is not clever advertising. It is showing your work, steadily, where your customers already look.

What finished job could you turn into marketing?

Pick one project from the last 60 days that has three things: photos, a clear result, and ideally something the customer said. For a contractor, that might be a mechanical room you insulated or a roof you replaced before winter. For an IT services company, it might be moving a ten-person dental office onto a new network over a weekend so the practice opened Monday without a hitch. For a landscaper, a backyard before and after.

Gather the raw material in one place: the photos, your field or project notes, and the customer’s comment, from a text, an email or a review. That is everything AI needs.

How do you turn one project into five marketing assets?

This is the prompt from the workshop. Attach the photos and paste your notes and the customer comment below it.

Chris’s Prompt · Turn One Project Into Five
Act as a marketing writer for a [your type of business].

Using the approved project notes, photos, and customer comment provided, create:
1. Website project page
2. Google Business post
3. LinkedIn post
4. Customer email
5. One-page sales sheet

FOR EACH ITEM:
- Match the length and style to where it will be used
- Explain the customer problem and work completed
- Use plain language
- Include a clear next step

RULES:
- Use only verified project information
- Do not invent savings, results, dates, scope, or customer quotes
- Remove the customer name if permission has not been given
- Mark missing information instead of guessing

From my Take Back Your Time with AI workshop for contractors (MICA, October 2026). I swapped the contractor type for [your type of business]. Works in ChatGPT or Claude.

One set of facts. Five different uses. The prompt asks AI to match length and style to each channel, which is the part most owners get stuck on. A LinkedIn post and a Google Business post are not the same thing. A sales sheet needs a different structure than a customer email. AI handles the rewriting so you do not have to.

The rules at the bottom keep you out of trouble. AI likes to round up. It will happily write that you “cut energy costs 40%” if nobody told it not to. Telling it to mark missing information instead of guessing gives you a short list of facts to confirm, rather than a polished piece with a made-up number in the middle.

Every prompt in this series follows the same pattern I teach as Tell AI Five Things: role, task, details, format and guardrails. If the first result is weak, add the detail you left out. More prompts like this one are in the AI prompt library for business owners.

How does this example work, start to finish?

1 · The taskTurn one finished project into a month of marketing.
2 · What we give AIProject photos, our notes and the customer’s comment.
3 · What AI producesA project page, Google post, LinkedIn post, customer email and sales sheet.
4 · What we checkFacts, numbers, quotes and permission to use the customer’s name.

How do you keep marketing going when you get busy?

Create it once. Schedule the month. The five assets from one project are already a month of content: the project page goes live this week, the Google post next week, LinkedIn the week after, the email to past customers after that, and the sales sheet goes in your estimators’ folder for the next similar bid.

The routine I recommend takes about 30 minutes a month:

Create Once, Schedule the Month

A monthly content routine

  1. Review the content. Read all five pieces and fix anything that does not sound like you.
  2. Choose the dates. Load the posts into whatever scheduler you use, or put each one on the calendar.
  3. Check what performed. Next month, look at which post got calls or clicks and do more of that.

Content gets published even when the week gets busy, because it was finished before the week started.

What does a person still need to check?

What We Check

Before anything is published

  • Permission. Do not name the customer, show their address or use their logo without a yes.
  • Every number. Savings, timelines and square footage must come from your records.
  • The customer comment is real and unedited in meaning. Never let AI write a quote for a customer.
  • Photos are appropriate. No faces, plates or private details you have not cleared.
  • The next step is clear. Every piece should tell the reader how to reach you.

If the website side needs work before you start sending people to it, go back to How to Use AI to Improve Your Website. Project pages work best when the site around them passes the 10-second test.

Where should you start this week?

Pick the best project you finished this quarter, gather the photos and notes, and run the prompt. Publish the project page this week. Schedule the other four. Next month, do it again with a different project. Twelve finished jobs a year turn into sixty pieces of marketing, every one of them true.

The next area turns the same habit inward, organizing the information that runs the jobs themselves: How to Use AI to Organize Operations.

Your Takeaway

Be known before they need you by showing your work. Turn one finished job into five assets with one prompt, check every fact and permission, and schedule the month in one sitting. Stop starting from zero.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How can a small business use AI for marketing?
Start from finished work. Give an AI tool the photos, notes and customer comment from one completed project and ask it to create a website project page, a Google Business post, a LinkedIn post, a customer email and a one-page sales sheet. Check the facts and schedule them over the month.
What is the best AI prompt for small business marketing?
Chris Sund’s “turn one project into five” prompt names a role, lists the five assets, asks for the right length and style for each channel, and sets rules: use only verified information, do not invent results or quotes, remove the customer name without permission, and mark missing information.
Will AI-written marketing sound generic?
Less so when it starts from a real project with real details. Generic content comes from generic inputs. Read every piece and edit anything that does not sound like your company.
How often should a small business post?
A steady rhythm beats bursts. One finished project a month, turned into five pieces, gives you roughly one post a week without writing from scratch.
Can AI write customer testimonials?
No. Only use what the customer actually said, with permission. Chris’s prompt tells the tool not to invent customer quotes.
Does Chris Sund teach this in a workshop?
Yes. It is the fourth area of Take Back Your Time with AI, delivered as a keynote, half-day or full-day workshop.
