Dover Air Force Base sits two miles from downtown with a workforce of around six thousand, roughly fifty four hundred military and six hundred civilian, and it supports something like twenty four hundred military dependents on top of that. It is the largest employer in Kent County and one of the main air cargo hubs on the East Coast, home to both the 436th Airlift Wing and the 512th, which is a reserve wing of about eighteen hundred members.
