About the Segment

A morning stop in Kansas City.

My KC Live is the weekday nine o'clock lifestyle hour on KCTV5, hosted by Shane Konicki and Kerrigan Arnold. Chris sat down with them in studio to talk about the book, who he wrote it for, and the question that started the whole thing.

You Are Capable of More: A No-Excuses Guide to Becoming Your Best Self was published by Game Changer Publishing on August 13, 2026, with a foreword by Ben Newman. It is available on Amazon and through Barnes & Noble.

The book came out of something Chris kept noticing as an executive and as a speaker, which is how many capable people quietly settle for less than they are able to do. Rather than guess at the reasons, he surveyed more than two hundred people across the country, about half of them in leadership roles. Ninety two percent said they believe they are capable of more than they are currently doing, and the reasons they gave came back in four consistent patterns.

What He Covered

The four barriers.

The reasons people gave most often in the survey, and the angles that travel well to other shows and formats.

01

Self-Doubt

The barrier people named more than any other. It usually shows up as quietly deciding you are not the right person for something before anyone else has a say.

02

Fear of Failure

Waiting for a guarantee that is never going to arrive, and what changes when the attempt starts to matter more than the certainty.

03

Busyness and Time

A full calendar is the most convincing excuse there is. Chris talks about what people actually do with the time they say they do not have.

04

Comfort

The most comfortable version of your life is rarely the best version of it. This is the barrier people are slowest to name out loud.

92%

Said they believe they are capable of more than they are currently doing.

40%

Named self doubt as the single biggest thing standing in their way.

200+

People surveyed for the research behind the book.

The conversation, word for word.

Aired August 17, 2026 on My KC Live, KCTV5 in Kansas City. Hosts Shane Konicki and Kerrigan Arnold traded the questions. Lightly edited for clarity.

My KC Live

If you have been putting off a dream or stalling out on your most important personal goals, it might be time for a fresh perspective. We are catching up with executive and personal development expert Chris Sund to discuss his new book, You Are Capable of More, and how a quick online assessment can help identify the exact barrier standing in your way. Chris, welcome to the show.

Chris Sund

Thanks for having me.

My KC Live

Your whole brand is built on the phrase, you are capable of more, which I love. But what does that actually mean to someone who is just watching this morning?

Chris Sund

I did a survey of about 200 people and asked them a lot of questions. What is holding you back? Do you think you are capable of more? If so, how often do you think that? And over 92 percent of people thought they were capable of more than what they were doing on a daily basis.

“Over 92 percent of people thought they were capable of more than what they were doing on a daily basis.”

My KC Live

So they know it. And you had a turning point in your life. Can you talk a little about what that was and how it changed you?

Chris Sund

About seven or eight years ago, I was at a company party, the kind where you do your big thank yous and awards. A spouse of one of my employees came up and asked if she could talk to me. I was caught a little off guard. I said, of course, what can I help you with? And she said, I just want to let you know that my husband is a better person because he works here. Not just a better person for work, or because of the impact it has made on our family financially. It is way past that. He is just a better person, and it has impacted us as a family because of that. That feeling you get inside from something like that is pretty hard to explain. I made it my mission at that point. As much as I want to give it back, it is also giving to myself, to help people become the better version.

My KC Live

Getting to that better version of ourselves, what would you say are the most common things holding people back? Because like you said, 92 percent of us are saying we are capable of more. What is actually stopping us?

Chris Sund

The top four, and two of them are kind of a blend. Self-doubt, and that fear of failure. Then just being comfortable with the day to day, being mundane. And then too busy. Time. Those were the four biggest barriers.

My KC Live

If someone were to go to your website right now, what would they find there, and what are some of the resources they could tap into?

Chris Sund

The first one I recommend is to take the assessment. It takes a couple of minutes, and it is going to ask you what more looks like. What are you chasing? It really gets in and diagnoses what barriers may be holding you back from that more. And when it is done, it takes you to free resources. There are articles you can read, help you can get, ways to change your perspective around what may be holding you back.

My KC Live

Let us talk about the book a little here. What do you really want readers to take away from this?

Chris Sund

Great question. There are a lot of personal stories in there, a lot of hardships. Things I had to tell my boys. Hey, there are some things in here you probably do not know about me, and we need to talk about it. So it is not about helping people become perfect. It is just helping people get better. And when you have nine out of 10 people saying I know I need help, here are some tips to reframe some perspective, things to learn to help them get through it.

“It is not about helping people become perfect. It is just helping people get better.”

If you had to boil it all down to one tip, one sneak peek from the book that people could take away today, what would it be?

Chris Sund

You know what, while self-doubt is that bigger barrier, I think one of the biggest lessons is that you can chase this pursuit and all these goals, but we have to remember time is our most valuable asset. So how you prioritize your time and make the most of it, spending it with those friends and family, I would say that is the best.

If people are watching today, and chances are you are someone who thinks you are capable of more, what is the best way to follow along with you, read the book, and get these tips?

Chris Sund

Great question. The website is youarecapableofmore.com. On there you are going to find information about the book, like I said a lot of free resources, and the assessment. There are even things where you do not just do it for yourself. It has workshops for companies, teams, anyone else.

My KC Live

That is amazing. Chris, thank you so much for joining us, and thank you for introducing us to the book. Be sure to check out the website for more information.
