About the Segment

Why capable people settle.

Bloom is Tampa Bay’s daily hour of health and lifestyle television, and Chris’s segment was built around a single question: why do so many capable people settle for less than they are able to do?

His answer comes from the research behind You Are Capable of More. He surveyed more than 200 working adults, and 92 percent said they are capable of more than they are doing now. When asked what was in the way, they kept naming the same four things.

It is a conversation for a general audience, which is exactly who the book was written for. No management vocabulary and no framework to memorize, just an honest look at what keeps people where they are and how small the first step out can be.

The free assessment at youarecapableofmore.com shows which of the four is doing the most work in your own life. Chris keeps it free so the price of the book is never the thing standing in someone’s way.

The Four Barriers

What holds capable people back.

What more than 200 working adults named when asked what stands between them and what they know they are capable of.

01

Self-Doubt

The inner voice that says this might not work. Named more often than anything else in the survey.

02

Fear of Failure

Close behind self-doubt, and usually travelling with it.

03

Too Busy

A full calendar that leaves no room for the thing that actually matters.

04

Comfort

The barrier that feels like a reward, which is exactly why it is so easy to miss.

The Book Behind the Segment

You Are Capable of More.

You Are Capable of More: A No-Excuses Guide to Becoming Your Best Self is about personal potential, self-doubt, and the quiet ways comfort keeps good people where they are. It is built on the stories and the survey that shaped it, with a foreword by Ben Newman.
